How easy is it to get good at basketball trickwise?

I'm average at basketball, I know the rules, I have height advantage, and now I just want to learn the techniques and tricks such as fadeaways, dribbling the ball between the legs, and fakes and stuff, just so I can get past people with ease.

Can anyone show me a link to a video or something to a technique on how to do this stuff, or is it just one of those things that comes naturally with practise?|||Practice makes perfect

How do I start off an essay about basketball and young hoop dreamers wanting a scholarship from their skills?

I need to write an essay about how kids grow up in poor inner city areas with the dream of playing basketball every single day in hopes of maybe, just maybe getting a college scholarship.

I have some really good ideas for this paper but does anybody have a good opening sentence or paragraph so help me get started?

Anything would be great. Thanks!|||How about this:

Basketball, saviour or deceiver?

Basketball is a way out of the ghetto, that is for the very few exceptional players.

But common knowledge and numbers show it is more of a deceiver than a saviour. The vast majority of youngsters that pin their hopes on basketball as a way to college and beyond leave their smashed dreams on the hardwood of a high school arena.

We need to emphasis that not every one from the ghetto is not skilled enough with a basketball to play their way into the future, but all of those inner city kids have what it takes to study their way to their dreams..................|||well i think that u could use t mag as a example of that because he grew up on a very dangerous street look it up and you could start it by saying " a man with ambitions , a kid with dreams t mag|||Actually a better example would be Sebastian Telfair, who grew up in Coney Island with dreams of being a professional who bypassed college and made it into the NBA.|||u should be like... u know whats sad? all the nigs on the street getting high and drunk when they could be having just as much fun playing a harmless game.. obviously not in those words but i think u get the idea

How do you get power for shooting a basketball above your head?

I am getting a new form like nba players so How do you get power for shooting a basketball above your head?|||Before I tell you, I should let you know that it's not all about shooting above your head. A good form is a proper jump shot that you can perform every time you get a good look. But if you are dying to shoot overhead, what really helps the most (aside from your legs) is your height. The taller you are, the easier it is to shoot over head, but if you are 6'0 or shorter than you probably want to work out and get stronger. The stronger you are the more power you will get, also your shooting range will gradually improve. Also, you should start by shooting overhead close to the basket then slowly work yourself to the three point line. So let me summarize it:

1. Use your height to your advantage.

2. Work out at the gym to get more power in your arms and your legs.

3. Start shooting close to the basket and slowly work your self to the three point line ( to get the flow of the jump shot)

4. Never chuck the ball to get more power, always be steady and use the same jumper from any distance, whether your shooting a free throw line jumper or a three pointer, your jump shot should always look the same.

5. Your jump height is an important factor in shooting over head. But you don't necessarily need to jump high to get a good jump shot. Take a look at Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks.|||Practice, and power .

You need to practice , because you'll never improve unless your practice!

You need power , because you need to have enough power to be able to throw the ball some distance.

Work out, exercise, and keep practicing. and well for the form , legs flat on the ground, get the ball above your head , and then "stretch" your arm out with force, making your ball going either up in the air, to forward .

Hope that helped !|||SAME ANSWER ABOVE

How do you play basketball on wii deca sports?

I'm thinking of getting it mainly for basketball...but i'll also play the other sports. Just wondering but how do you control when playing basketball so i know if it is worth getting.|||Never played it, but here is one user review of the basketball section of the game, from Gamefaqs:

"Every single time I have played this game I have gotten my *** handed to me. I just don't understand how my stupid guys cannot defend the ball and practically give it to the other team. EVERY SINGLE TIME! This game mode infuriates me and usually results in a tantrum of epic proportions. Great for parties. The Wii remote is used for motions such as stealing the ball and throwing at the hoop while the nunchuk is used for movement."

Since NBA Live 08 for the Wii was also very poor in terms of gameplay when it came out last year, I would recommend NBA Live All-Play '09 if you really want the best basketball game out there for the Wii. But that's not saying much, because the reviews for '09 weren't too good either (but at least are better than Deca Sports).

How can I keep the grip of my basketball in good condition?

I have a Spalding Never Flat basketball. The grip on it is great and I want to keep it like that for as long as possible, but I really don't know what to do. I also use it outdoors.|||Sadly to Truly keep it nice that way you will probably have to by a new ball eventually. That is just how it works.

I'm sure there is probably some products that will make the ball a little more "sticky", but nothing will keep for ever when you are bouncing the thing all the time.|||The tack on outdoor balls will wear eventually, honestly the only way to keep a good grip is getting new balls every now and then.|||practice bouncing it and catching it and grip it

How much is a basketball signed by Shaq And Kobe worth? I have one and am interested in selling it, so I was wondering if there are any memorabilia enthusiasts or people willing to appraise the worth of a perfectly-conditioned basketball in a clear-glass case with both of their signatures on it.

What is the best strategy against a quicker basketball team who can also shoot the ball?

My friends and I are in a lower division basketball rec league. There is one team who should be in a much higher league but picked this league so that they could easily blow the other teams out, classy I know. What is the best strategy to at least compete with them? We do have a little size and we are probably the more physical team.|||The wrong thing to do is not run with them, the wrong thing to do is slow the game down too much and let them take full advantage of easy baskets, fast break and early offense points. Every zone no matter if its 1-3-1, 2-3, 3-2 is the exact same thing once the ball gets moving If they are faster they can take advantage of the gaps off the dribble making you guys suck in miss rotations and sooner or later getting the three point shot will be easier then it would be against a traditional man defense. The worse thing you can do against a god 3 point shooting team is play a zone. If their point guard is faster then yours, your wings will have to help on the dribble drive so their shooters can spot up in the gaps on both wings. you'll get blown out. Play aggressive man to chase them off the three line and into your interior help. If you are bigger and stronger you are forcing them directly into your strength. On offense run out of the net. When they make shots push the ball down their throats. Designate your 4 or 5 man to take the ball out of the net, get your best post player on the move down the court so he can try to seal the smaller defender early on the block or in the middle of the lane, since their defense is not set there will be little to no help since you are going so early the ref's will usually let your guy get away with being in the key a second or two longer. slow it up and pound the ball inside on misses unless they are long misses that lead to run outs. Being the slower team does not mean you can't put pressure on the faster team.

Jump 18 inches higher in 10 weeks:

http://www.program51.com|||I would defintely run a 3-2 defense. This would enable your 1,2,and 3's to shut down the shooters at the 3 pt range. Also your big men must be very active guarding the baseline. Believe me my team just ran the same exact type of defense and we won the game. And don't give the shooters a chance to breathe. Frustrate them, deny them the ball, eventually they'll get tired. You said you were the more physical team, shooters are normally weaker players on the court. Just frustrate them and you'll cause lots of turnovers.|||In my current league, our rival team is exactly the same and what we do to always beat them is to get extremely mentally prepared to kick their a$$. Second, play really really really strong defense and when you have to foul them, foul them hard, practically flagrant foul them. You need to know you will win the game and never give up even if you are down 10. If you want, you can play 1-3-1 defense which might work in the beggining, depending on how much your teamates know on playing 1-3-1. Make smart passes and fake before you pass it if you aren't shure about passing. Other then that you should win.|||i think you should slow the game down working clock management looking for good shots while pound it inside if you can the closer the shot the harder it is for the other team to run and the more chances to take advantage of your height on the boards

use a 1-3-1 great to defend against wing jumpers and top of key while the corner will be open most people don't like shooting from there but if they do and there point likes to drive it sets you up for a few run out fast-breaks and a man on man with good pressure on the ball but slacking off the back side to help against the drive on defense|||Run that old Detroit Pistons Bad Boy defense on them. Get Physical with em, Rough em up a bit, No flagrant fouls or anything like that just don't give up any easy baskets.

The best offensive team doesn't always win if you can use your size and intimidate them physically you just might pull the upset or at least be competitive.|||Slow the game down (work the clock on offense). Since you say y'all are the more physical team, make sure some bodies hit the floor. That will take it's toll after awhile and slow them down a little.

The worse thing you can do is get out there and try to run with them.|||faye is correct... your team's best trait might be your ability to be physical, so that's what you should do. Don't try to run with them.

Even if you end up getting beat, let them know they've been in a game.

Pound the ball inside on offense. And crash the boards on both ends.|||A strong defense with a full court press.|||defence is the only answer

How should I go about drafting for fantasy basketball?

I am new to fantasy basketball. What positions are most important to have good players at? Should I stock up on good players at one position?|||As a general rule you will want to target point guard and center first, since these are the toughest positions to fill. After you fill those 2 positions I would use the best player avaliable strategy when it is your turn to draft. Doing this will give you a balanced team. As a general rule it is much easier to get very good players later that are shooting guard, small forward and power forward.

Why is David Stern more concerned with basketball in China and India than focusing on the USA?

The NBA wants to make basketball the no. 2 sport in India within a few years?

Come on people, this is disgusting. David Stern needs to focus on improving the quality of NBA play before whoring basketball out overseas. I think Jordan already did so much to promote basketball overseas, there's not much more you can do. This dude is so greedy it isn't funny.|||With ratings down and a lackluster NBA finals David stern is lookin for anyway to make money|||Not really. the object of all sports is to make money and have great games. the USA is already tapped out because you either like it or you don't. india is not used to basketball so introducing it over their to that population will increase the money by a lot. china is on its way because they buy a lot of jerseys and actually pay attention.|||China and India represent a third of the worlds population. How do I get my fingers stronger for basketball?

So I have began training for the basketball season. I have big hands, so i can hold a ball in place with one hand on the top. I can only do it for about five seconds though, what can I do or purchase to help me workout the muscles in my fingers?|||Excellent question. Here's a few ideas:

1. Get a sandbag, depending on your size and strength, I'd say 25 lbs., and do rows with it by gripping it on both sides with your fingers.

2. Hold and/or Carry Weight plates (preferably without the lip - so smooth ones) with your fingers/hands. Start with moderate weight and pick a specific distance or time to carry or hold them...then increase weight %26amp; time/distance.

3. Perform some "ball handling" with a medicine ball. Not dribbling around, but slapping the ball with your hands/fingers to strengthen them.

Also practice mid range shots more than any other shot. Three point shots are fun to do, but limit practicing it. Your brother should be strict because coaches are that way. Also work on your side to side movement, the quicker your side to side movement is, the better defender you'll be. For tryouts though, endurance is critical, thats why you need to condition yourself with running. You should also lift weights a few times per week if you can. It is not imminent you do that, but it would help. Then you should also study offenses. Most teams run a variation of the Motion offense. How can I become a better basketball player?

This will be my first year of basketball and im going to be a freshmen in 9th grade. How can I become a better basketball player? I'm 5'5 115 pounds, quick, kinda skinny, 14 and I can dribble I guess ok and shoot ok.

How can I become a better basketball player?|||Just practice different shooting spots. Do different drills, lift weights, and also do some different running drills. Just practice and practice. Practice does makes perfect.|||First off, you need to have the desire to get better. If you truly want to be a great player, you can do it. You need to believe in yourself and practice the hardest. Most importantly, though, you need to practice, practice, and practice. Make basketball your #1 priority (besides school and family of course!) Look online (youtube/google) and find resources that show you drills on how to get better.

You need to compile a training program from which you can either put together yourself, find on the internet, or ask your high school coach or anyone that you find at the gym that knows what they're doing. Become a student of the game. Watch basketball, read about basketball, and be willing to do anything to get better.

You will need to work on everything, from your shooting, to ball-handling, speed, quickness, strength, and conditioning. Ask older guys that are serious about it on how they get better, and maybe if you could workout with them or watch them. Take your ball everywhere, make it an extension of yourself. Sleep with it, dribble it around the neighborhood, shoot jumpers until you can't see anymore at night. Get a gym membership and hit the weight room. Run around your neighborhood, run hills, do sprints on the track, stretch. Most importantly though, make sure you get better everyday!

I know it sounds like alot but if you truly love the game of basketball and want to be great, you can do anything you put your mind too.

Remember... “Success is not a matter of chance; it's a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for; it is a thing to be achieved.”|||well im a girl but my coach treated us like guys so he said we had to perfect our dribbling, lay ups, and free throws we did many drills like dribbling with two balls and practiced shooting with one hand|||Well you can practie and if some of ur friends play basketball. Is there a downside to wearing basketball shoes to the gym for working out?

I have a pair of basketball shoes but I don't play basketball anymore.. I've joined a gym where I'll just be running on a treadmill and lifting weights and stuff like that.. Can I wear basketball shoes for this or do I have to buy special shoes for the gym?|||No, there's a lot of running involved in basketball, if it's good enough for that, it's good enough for the treadmill.

Why is it harder for me to shoot a basketball?

For some reason I can't shoot a basketball. I used to be so good and i'm 11 turning 12 in 1 month and 14 days. I think I have become stronger is this why I cant make a basket? Basketball iks my favorite sport. My hoop is in front of my house. The 3 point line is sideways from the hoop not straight because I have no space to go straight 3s. Why does my basketball always miss the hoop and a litle times makes it in? My basketball is nba size. But it feels light. Any tips or tricks? Also can you please tell me why I cant shoot a basketball?|||use less power. that's what i did and i made like a lot more shots. since your getting older your getting stronger and your using the same amount of energy but your stronger so it is more powerful.|||There is a school of thought that you should set the rim at the height above your head at which it will be when you reach your full growth. Let's say you will be 6'5" at maturity and you are 4' 11" now. The rim will be 10 feet at maturity, but you need to set the rim at 8' 6" for your current height. Obviously, adjust the numbers to your actual current and future height.

Once your rim is adjusted, you will develop the proper arc and trajectory on your shots to maximize your game later in development.

Bear in mind that I am not a great shooter myself.

Good luck.|||Don't lose faith. You're 12! You're growing and getting stronger... you'll have to adjust your shot as your body changes. You said the ball feels light so you're probably just not used to your new strength. Lighten up on your shot. A good adjustment you can make is bringing the ball higher in your shot. It will help take some of the power out of your shot, and it will also make your shot harder to defend when you are playing.

Another thing to consider is that you're shooting from the side. Sometimes when you shoot from the baseline on the court, you have trouble picking up how far to shoot the ball (depth perception). Your ability to see how far away it is can be affected by the time of day and how much light there is.

Practice, practice, practice, and I'm sure your touch will come back!|||Just keep practicing. Focus on form. KEEP THE RIM AT 10 FT. Watch some video of Ray Allen shooting jumpshots. Try to use similar form to his(his is perfect). And again, just keep practicing and know that down the road, you will become a good shooter even if it doesn't seem like it now.|||Certainly there are many aspects to shooting the basketball successfully.

But one overlooked aspect is aerobic fitness.

For me, I find that when my aerobic fitness is top notch, I can easily make 20 shots in a row from anywhere on the court, including from the NBA 3-point line.

The reason for this is because aerobic fitness allows a person to maintain a higher level of motor control throughout his/her body. You feel more in command, thus your brain and nervous systems are more connected (almost becoming one) with the muscles in your body.

For typical adults, I'd recommend running 5 times a week for 30 to 45 minutes. The goal should be to run at full speed (I am able to sprint for this time period without stopping). If you can achieve this then you are 70% of the way to shooting basketball very well into the hoop.

For those who are younger than adults, I'd recommend seeing a health professional to determine what is equivalent for your growing body.

Hope this helps!|||Dont put so much force in your shot. When you shoot to hard it hits off the backboard and comes off but not in the basket.|||maybe your handling of the ball is not correct. you have to make sure the ball does not touch the palm of your hands, only your fingers when you shoot. also, dont forget the follow through via the flick of the wrist and dont forget that the power comes from the knees, bend it and jump.

work it up and im sure you will improve

and last thing, dont pressure yourself. shoot from shorter distances and work your way out. celebrate small victories. you're young and you have alot of basketball ahead of you so just enjoy it

What can I do to prepare for basketball?

I am planning to tryout for our school's basketball team. The last time I was on a team was in 4 th grade and I'm in 8th now. There will be 4 open gym days and I plan on going to those. What else can I do to start preparing for this season. Also, what should I get or buy for this season?|||Well seeing that you haven't played in 4 years I would first get into shape.

Do some sprints. Speed always helps.

Work on your defensive stance, make sure you can get low and slide from side to side with ease. Defense i the most important part of the game.

I would dribble every day till practice, dribble with your head up with your strong and weak hand. Then work on the crossover. Work on being able to keep the ball under control, and then once you have that down run full speed and maintain control.

As for shooting make sure you can do a right and left handed layup. Shoot from all areas of the court. Each time you go to play, start close to the basket, a few feet away, and shoot. Shoot until you make the majority of your shots, then back up a tiny bit and repeat. Your range will grow over time.

Work on passing with a friend, bounce pass, chest pass, over head pass. Make sure that you are confident with the ball.

Also you should play 1 on 1 or some pick up games to get used to competition again, every little bit helps.

As for gear it can be pretty basic, all I have is a shirt with the sleeves cut off, an average pair of basketball shorts, and some shoes. Make sure you get good basketball shoes, grip is important. You can tear through a pair of basketball shoes in a season. Also get spandex.

Good luck!!|||No need for gym.

1) Jog for 20 mins a day

2) Push ups 20-40 a day, 2 sets

3) Lounges 10-20, 3 sets

4) Drink 10 glasses of water a day

5) Eat lots of protein and carbohydrates for energy consumption

6) Drink milk

7) Have enough rest, 10 hours a day

8) Pray to God that you will have strength for the tryout

Thanks and God bless.|||best way to prepare is to play.. im not talking about shooting around with your friends..go to parks or gyms and play against good competition. not only will it make you a stronger and smarter player, but it will improve your game and make you adjust quickly..take this advice if u want to be a star someday: hard work pays off.|||YOU CAN ACT LIKE A MAN!!

How can i beat tall defenders in basketball?

Hi, i sometimes have trouble playing basketball with tall defenders simply because theyre taller then me,

i was wondering do you guys have any tips for me?|||Use your speed use pump fakes to throw the defender off balance.

Use your jump shot use the tricks if you can on the perimeter it will throw him off.

Take him off the dribble with speed.

Everything you do against a taller defender do it with speed.

On defense use quick hands and go for steals.|||You cannot put all your hopes on the fact that you will be faster than someone taller than you. I will honestly tell you in my experience, Varsity level tall players are very agile. If we were to use the NBA as an example, you won't beat Amare Stoudamire or Chris Bosh with speed alone.

So to beat a tall defender, you have to bang up against them a couple of plays to flush out their weakness. What I usually do is size them up the first play down. Try to post them up, and you don't even have to post up down low. If you're a guard, then back them at the three-point line with or without the ball. See if he can defend you if you play physical. I will tell you that tall doesn't always mean strong, and if you can physically overpower him, it is optimal.

The second option if he is stronger than you would be to use speed. Run him around a couple of screens and see if he can keep up. Flash down and fake a cut, then come back. If he isn't quick enough to keep up, then try to maximize on this. It requires more running and energy than the first option, but you can get a decent shot off. When utilizing your speed, remember that most of the time, moving without the ball will get you the best angle for a shot. Also, try moving behind his blind side (the area the back of his head, NOT the back of his body, is facing).

If that fails, the third and last option would be to use tricks and small fakes to shake him. Don't be afraid to go up against him. Don't fear a block. When you shoot to avoid a block, you've already missed whether he blocks it or not. Shoot to make it hard to block, yet don't over-arc the shot. Use a couple of spin moves, and throw in an up-and-under every once in awhile.

These three options don't have to be path you follow. The key is to focus on his weaknesses. If, for example, you find that he doesn't do well playing perimeter defense, then you should capitalize. If you're not a great shooter, drive to the basket instead. Use his weaknesses to your advantage. Many coaches tell you to use your strengths, but I find that for an average player with average abilities, using your opponents weaknesses is much more realistic.|||i was playing a guy 5 inches taller than me last week end... speed will not matter if both of you can run fast.. the trick here is to be crafty... be sneaky and deceptive

what i did was i backed him down then pretended to hook it with my right then just faced up and shot it

basketball isnt always about height nor strength its also about having a good head. basketball IQ... you know he will most likely block your shot so fake him out of his position... if your down low give him a little dream shake to make him move to a certain direction then shoot the other way or get some space and shoot.

remember taller defenders doesnt always mean wider and stronger ones..... the taller they are the farther they are from the ground :P so you can probably send a little nudge and see what happens|||Usually, the taller the person is, the slower he is. Use speed to run by them and drive into the paint. You don't necessarily have to be tall to be good. Look at all the undersized point-guards out there, Chris Paul, Iverson, Tony Parker, all of them are successful.

Good luck =].|||when they post up on you you need to be like me, or kobe bryant, see the game in slow motion, what i mean is dont go for any quick swipes at the ball just watch him dribble as he posts on you and watch his hand, as soon as the ball leaves his hand to dribble you smack it away and boom, easy steal,it works|||Use your quickness and speed. Use some series of fakes because taller players always attempt to block shots. Use some acrobatic moves, me when I face against taller guys I give them my acrobatic moves so they won't block my shots.|||ima tell u im short and i played varsity bball sinnce i was a freshman now im a junior and i start im like 5 8 but i beat everybody by thepump fake and speed it works and u will get past every1|||Use your speed!!

It is effectective me i am tall for my position but when I play against smaller defenders ihave a hard time on theirs speed.

Im fast they are faster|||be stronger like Kendirck perkins manhandled Gasol in the finals, also use speed, and agility. jump higher than them|||well as captain of my basketball team i say u should dribble dribble fake a shot than really shoot|||I have no clue.

Its tough.|||pass the ball to your team mates, :D|||fast dribbling, small and quick players like Chris Paul and

How to incorporate basketball and other sports into school?

I'm tutoring my little brother, and he isn't the easiest person to work with. But he loves basketball and other sports. Is there a way that I could combine his school work and basketball to make reviews and homework more fun and interesting for him?|||Tell em you'll kick his *** if he doesn't do his homework.

Depending how old he is just offering to play ball with him AFTER homework might get him to do it, if he still looks up to you that is.

How do i become more aggressive in basketball?

My coach told me i would be better at basketball if i was more aggressive but the thing is i'm not naturally aggressive. I like wouldn't hurt a fly and really i don't know how to be aggressive. Any tips?|||Attack the hoop more and don't be soft. Post up more.|||I have this same problem. one thing i do is when you drive, lower your shoulder. that way your making space between you and the defender and if he/she jumps on you then he/she will fall on you. also make sure you don't trip over. thats some peoples biggest mistake because when you drive you feel like you have to take really long strides and you might end up over the basketball so you will trip, don't do that just take normal strides and jump if you feel you can complete or if your close enough to the basket. also keep you head up and don't be afraid to do a little push off and take the jumper at the block.|||I'm aggressive by yelling alot while i play and taunting people. I understand that it's not good sportsmanship, but everyone understands it now. Take the ball to the hoop more and it'll be what he wants.

If you want to be more agressive, get mad, cause if you suck it's easier to get mad while you lose. Just be more competitive.

I'm a good ball player, but my friends are better. I just get more competitive when I play, and drive alot and ****. SHOOT UP ON THE JUICE.|||Your coach doesn't mean aggressive like hurting people aggressive. Your coach means that you settle to easily for jump shots when you could possibly drive it in. You may be to scared to shoot and just pass automatically. If I were you I'd go to the park with a few friends on your team and play some pick up games. It'll really help.|||you gotta feel it.. play down low.. get hit in the face a couple times and see what its like to get punked. dont return the favor, but use your whole body to get into places you normally wouldnt.

also, drive the ball non-stop, and dont worry about hitting the ground at all or getting fouled hard.

man up :D|||lol i am the same exact way i wont even hurt a fly either! my coach has told me that too and i just try to score more and not pass up so many shots and go after the ball more when it is loose:D

How do you get gum off of basketball shorts?

Well, they aren't basketball shorts but the material is the same.|||Try putting them in the freezer- then break it off-- the rest should be removed with rubbing alcohol|||Put them in the freezer, soak them first, lay them flat exposing the gum, leave them till they freeze solid, you'll find that the gum will have

frozen too,if you allow them to freeze solid, then it's a simple matter to chip the gum off gently, don't pull hard, you'll tear the material. If it doesn't work first time,do it again.Wayne|||freeze the gum and it will pop right off|||rub ice on the spot and when the gum gets soft get it off|||What? scrap it off|||Put the article of clothing into the freezer for an hour or so. The gum will become brittle and break right off.|||Freeze it! You can pull it off in one chunk then|||Use ice or peanut butter.

Put the shorts in the freezer making sure the spot with the gum is exposed so you can get to it when you take them out. When the shorts are almost frozen, take them out and use a butter knife to scrape the gum off.

Or saturate the spot with peanut butter (brand and type doesn't matter but the chunky doesn't work as well and the bits get in the way). Again, using a butter knife, scrape the gum off.

What should I do to practice before basketball tryouts?

Basketball tryouts for my school are in a week... I havent played in 2 years, but a lot of people want me to because of my height. What are some things that I could practice at home to get ready for tryouts?|||A lot of practice and relaxed masturbation|||If you've only got a week before tryouts, then you should get a head start on running. Go to your local or school track and run(jog) about 4 laps each day. Then after you've properly recovered, run some 100 yard sprints as fast as you can, then walk until you've recovered, and do another. Do this for about 4 laps.

Then take a basketball and jog around the track for 4 laps and you're done. The reason I'm telling you to focus on running is because you've only got a week before tryouts and if you can run without getting tired, the coach will surely be impressed. You'll also have all the endurance you need to hustle and play great defense. Trust me.

P.S.

Over the weekend, you could find a goal somewhere and just shoot as many jump shots as you can, until you're tired. Do this Saturday, not Sunday, because you'll need a full day to recover.|||Hi!

What you should do depends on your position and many, many other things. Sounds like you are tall so you are probably a post player or a big guard. You only have a week to prepare so I am sorry, but it is going to be difficult for you to get in great shape in such a short amount of time. It usually takes about 3 weeks for that. Anyways, you need to what we call "tighten up your game."

You're not going to make any drastic improvements in a week, sorry. But you can definetly prepare yourself so you can make the team.

First off, I would condition (run) every morning. You want to train for basketball and do the things that are going to be asked of you to do during tryouts. For example, suicides (also called line drill). This is where you run from the baseline to the free throw line and back, then to half court and back, then to the other free throw line and back, then full court and back. Run 3 of these. Each in a 65 seconds with 65 second rest in between.

The next thing they will have you run in tryouts are full court sprints. Baseline to baseline. You should run about 10 of these a day. Each should take you 10 seconds.

You do not want to run too much long distance because this in not what the game of basketball is comprised of. It is a game of short sprints. You rarely are running at jogging speed.

As far as your skill development...you should be working on post move (layups), and mid-range jump shots, but most importantly FREE THROWS. If you are a PF or C and you knock down FREE THROWS you will make the team, I guarentee it.

If you have any questions or want any more advice please email me.

I think it is under my profile.

Augie Johnston

http://www.thejump-manual.com|||I think you should practice you shot first because that can be quite difficult if you haven't played for a while. secondly you should practice dribbling because this is also one of the things people struggle with when playing basketball.

How do you improve personal defense in basketball?

I need some help in improving my defense on basketball. What are some hints and tricks ?

- Thanks for any help.|||It takes commitment and dedication. You will have to put your heart into it, you have to want to rip the other guy's heart out and stomp on it, and still be able to sleep at night [Don't do this literally, but you get what I mean]. Be hungry, if you get posted up, hold your ground, don't back down. If he tries to utilize screens to get open, run through the screens, stick to him like glue, be a pesk, be annoying, be anything that'll get under his skin, and the ultimate reward is to see 0 pts from the offensive player you were guarding in the boxscore at the end of the game, and of course the W you helped to earn for your team.|||Do a lot of sprints and somehow get really quick feet. Be really aggressive but not over-aggressive, don't commit many fouls, and only try to steal the ball when you have a good chance of stealing it. Stay low and always keep your hands out and moving. Basically, just stay in front of the person you're guarding and don't let them get by you. If you don't get burned, you're already playing pretty decent defense.|||1) Improve your lower body. Do wall sits and run for durability.

2) Improve footwork. haha I do not know how to improve your footwork, but you could find out via internet.

3) You have to have a passion for playing defense. If you think defense is just a certain amount of time of rest before you go back on offense, that is the wrong mentality.|||first of all be beastly. want to play defense. look for steals and always keep track of your man. box out. keep in mind of the shell drill. if u dont kno what this is google it.

also im very good at one on one defense. first of all try not to bite on any fakes. this includes shot and body fakes. try to keep your space. if he gets to close to u and starts to come in contact while dribbling past u just let him go because if u keep on sliding it will be a foul. try to force him one way. if u dont he will have both ways to go and will shake u silly. bend your knees. u may think that is something you already learned but many kids have still failed to bend lower as to almost sit in a chair. sliding your feet is key but many kids will slide almost like their hopping or bouncing. this is fairly slow so i advise you that when your sliding to not move up and down so much. if your a guard never swat at a shot. just put your hands in his face but keep ready just in case it was a shot fake. a hand in the face at the 3 point line is very hard and coaches do not recommend that shot anyway. unless your a good defender i do not recommend reaching for steals except when they crossover or mess up. if they pick up their dribble get up in his face agressively. also whenever being approached by a dribbler try not to slide backwards for you will trip and if your old enough the other kids will go oooooooooooooooooooooo and say u got shook. one mroe thing on the forcing is that u can force them to their bad hand or you can force them to the outside.|||For me it was just being quick, quick with your feet and quick with your mind, watch their eyes see the different directions they look, i did all of this and i was our best defense player.. Run a lot, be in shape, WANT to get that ball from them.. Dont be nice, you have to be Agressive, lift weights, i was like the skinniest person on the team but i lifted weights all the time %26amp; i always got the ball. Always be one step ahead of them %26amp; if they're going for a shot stay flat footed and DONT move, obviously.. So they can get called for Off. foul.. People do different things, thats what worked for me, But Good luck! :)|||first off, defense is desire, you have to want it.

with that said, here are some tips that should help: stay low. stay on the balls of your feet. hands are out wide, with the palms up. watch their waist. play with your feet, not your hands. don't reach. force them to one side, and keep them there. work on you're lower body. especially your hips, and abs. good luck!|||Try keeping your hands off of the opposing teams junk. Hands on dongs will get in the way of your dribbling and what not. Try not to swallow so much semen before a game.|||fob defense

How long does it take for a basketball to roll 5 meters?

I'm doing a project, but I'm in class right now so I can't collect the necessary data. How long does it take for a basketball to roll 5 meters?|||Hi!

First, you must take in note that the speed is an important factor.

Okay, so all you gotta do is take the circumference of the ball you want. Each ball doesn't have the same circumference. After, all you need to do is 5/measure= number of times the ball rolls on it self on 5 meters. Than the speed is what that makes this problem impossible. Hope this helps.|||Circumference of the ball (according to wikipedia) =29.5 inches = 74.9cm

5 meters = 500 cm

500/ 74.9 = approx 6.68 revolutions

Find how long (s) to make 1 revolution and multiply by 6.68|||It depends on how fast it's rolling.

How can I control my breathing during basketball?

I have a heart murmur, Oshgood-Shlatters disease, slight scoliosis and I'm pretty sure I have asthma. There is NO way I'm giving up basketball for any of this. Does anyone have any tips on how I can control my breathing better? I'm okay during games, but if we're just sprinting, I end up having an asthma attack.|||I have similar problems as you do, and I play basketball as well. The BEST way to breathe would be to breathe in through your nose, and out through your mouth. When sprinting, your breathing should be fast and constant(well-paced).

A nice way I pace myself with breathing while running/ sprinting is that I breathe in through my nose when I take one step, and breathe out through my mouth when I take another step.

So when i sprint, I'm going very fast, so I pace my leg motion/ footsteps with my breathing.

Breathing this way also helps the oxygen flow through your body better as opposed to breathing in through your mouth, out through your mouth, or any other variations.|||man i can really relate to you, same thing happens to me and yes i have asthma, but yeah just breathe in your nose and breath out your mouth if that helps or try going to your doctor, or what i do is just my mental game, try thinking from now on at practices or games, just push it and think "mind over matter"...|||oh sorry to hear that.... try breathing through your nose when running. I play basketball too, and my coach would tell me when im breathing in, i should breath through my nose, and breath out my mouth. You can try it see if that helps|||Ask your physician or consult a heart specialist.|||Dude... face the facts and don't play sports period. Take up chess instead. What is proper etiquette for sharing a basketball court?

At my fitness center, there are two basketball courts. I was playing with some friends on one half of a court (the other court already had a game going on) when 10 guys just came on and just took over without asking to play a game. I was pretty pissed and got in 2 of their faces telling them to play half court, but backed off because I couldn't take all 10 of them. What is the proper etiquette here? Shouldn't people play half court when other people are already using/want to use the courts as well?|||Etiquette varies from gym to gym, but I don't know any place where it's acceptable to just take over a court where other people are playing without saying anything to them.

If it's at a fitness center, your best move is probably to go find the manager and ask him what their policy is regarding the basketball courts. Tell him what happened and ask him to post a copy of the policy somewhere near the courts to avoid future confrontations.|||That's funny because the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. These guys were running full court and I took my little nephews and their friends to the park so they could play basketball. But this park only had 1 court. So after their game was over, I stepped on the other end and started shooting. They basically expected me to move because they still wanted to run a full. How to become a high school basketball coach?

Hey I'm a 16 year old sophomore in high school and I was wondering what steps I can take to maybe making a career out of coaching basketball at the high school or college level. I love the game of basketball and currently play on my high school team. But being only 5'8 I know realistically it would be extremely difficult to play professional basketball. However I do love the sport and really want to be able to coach after college. Any tips to help me do this?|||well just know how to help with the fundamentals, plays and drills a team can do and learn how to wrap anckles just in case. when you get out of college start with highschool and work your way up

if up is what you want|||Head to university, major in Human Kinetics and become a PE teacher. When you go to job interviews for the teaching spot make it clear that you are interested in coaching basketball. This will increase your chances of getting a teaching job and allow you to coach basketball because many schools have trouble finding teachers who are knowledgeable about the game and have the time and desire. It will take a few years for you to make the transition from high school to college and you will have to make a name for yourself by turning out good players and winning alot but it is by means possible|||I started by volunteering. Ask your junior high coach if he needs an assistant. Make sure you know some good drills. Create your own ones and put it into practice. Study the game man. I usually watch the way different NBA coaches run their plays and I copy them. Since you are sixteen man the future is ahead of you. Never say never man you can become pro. I made pretty far and I am 5'5 I learned to shot 3 pointers and that was my lethal weapon. Alright I hope this helps!!
