How can you be an effective basketball player?

I'm relatively tall, and have an average ability at dribbling, passing and shooting. I'm very good at intercepting and marking my player, as long as they aren't heaps taller than me. I would like to know-how can i become a more effective and skilled basketball player? I still feel a little shy and scared, should i just go for it? I hardly dribble for fear of losing the ball, and have never shot a goal. Despite this, i'm an okay player, i just need help. I want to really get in there and help my team, but how???

Please answer!|||Babygirl...try this. Practice.

Practice dribbling.

Practice shooting.

Practice your free throws.

Practice blocking.

Practice rebounds.

And when you're done.

Practice some more.

I've coached basketball for more than 10 years. It all starts with that one verb.|||First thing you do, is learn to dribble... Get the feel of the ball, use the tips of your fingers, after you get so fimilar with that ball you can bounce it without looking at it, then bounce 1 ball through a cone sloam Zig Zag through, until you can dribble with speed and control.... Make sure you chnage hands, until the ball feels natural in your hands. Most of Practice,practice,practice.|||It all depends. You obviously whether are vastly skilled or barely skilled need to work on all the basics (dribbling, shooting, passing, rebounding, etc). If you are able to play strong defense and learn how to properly rebound and are aggressive you'll always be needed. A coach will never put down a player who gives it their all. First player to dive on the ground for a loose ball or battle for a rebound.

I would get a friend to help you and have each other work the basics. Dribble looking up and at your teammates. If you learn to dribble and practice practice practice you will feel like your walking regularly without a ball.

My advice is practice on the ball defense. I would learn how to pressure the ballhandler, also work on rebounding. Throw the ball up off the backboard....first find your defender and bend your knees with your arms out to the side. Use your butt to bump the girl and then approach the backboard and jump up to your highest point for the ball. Rebounding is all about saying in your head "That is my ball". Pretend older girls stole your ball and won't give it back. You want nothing more than to get your basketball and go home.|||First of all you must have self-confidence to be successful. If you don't believe in yourself then you will never become any better. Second, you need to find a particular aspect that you really excel at and use that to your advantage. The best way to get better is just play. The more you play the more comfortable and skilled you will become. Their's no substitute for experience. The more you have the smarter player you become. If you don't feel comfortable trying something in a game, practice on your own until you get the hang of it and then try it. Just stay dedicated and you will improve.|||GO to the Dick Baumgartner Shooting Camp in Richmond Indiana www.dickbshootingcamp.com. Helped me tons as long as you pay attention and dont jack around like all of the other kids. I think it is four days they provide food and board it cost about $500|||You need to play more. That's the only thing that will help you. Go to the "Y", your local park, etc....play pick up games even if you have to play with the guys. It builds confidence, and once you've got that, THERE's no stopping you. you don't second guess yourself, which means fewer mistakes. In a vey short time you can improve your game if you just got out and play (often).|||Okay first of all there are three things you should do. The first is believe in yourself and in everything that you do, because if you don't you will feel inferior and won't be effective, so believe in yourself. The next is work hard, chase every loose ball and rebound, do the dirty work that no one else whats to do, play defense, and always do what your coach tells you and listen to him/her, and be coachable the coaches know what they are talking about ( usually). The next is play every chance you can whether it is by yourself or a couple friends. Playing three-on-three or 21 can really improve your skills.

Mainly just work hard and have faith that you can do good.|||you need to be cool when playing, earn a lot of confidence and the skills you've got will work properly..don't play solely. remember you're in a team. Don't make useless fouls. Control the ball. Don't feel the heat.|||you need to buy a really expensive and cool shoes. thats all you need, man. shoes. it's gotta be the shoes.

they wouldnt notice how bad you play because theyd be looking at your shoes. trust me, thats how MJ made it big.
